Low vision

This jacket is one of a kind. It has an orange zipper which makes color discrimination possible for people with low vision. The contrast between the brown jacket and the orange zipper is perfect for people w/low vision to be independent and not ask for help zipping it up. When a zipper is the same color as the jacket it's hard to see. This did run large but when wearing layers it's fine. Love the zippers inside too. It is also machine washable which is a plus. We never purchased a Columbia jacket before but our friend who lived in Buffalo, NY said he wouldn't wear any other brand for winters that cold. He purchased all Columbia snow gear for a friend's child's high school graduation gift who was headed for Rochester for college. So I decided to try it and am glad II did.

Not to shabby, not the best

So I am a 5'7 individual not exactly super tall or fat or skinny pretty average the biggest issue is the arms are a little long and the inside gold does like to escape sometimes. I feel as Columbia is losing quality over the years as I've been getting a lot of these jackets and the inside does kind of feel a little on the cheap side I don't know if this is on purpose or something is going on with their quality control but overall not too bad. I don't have a super skinny muscle frame but it is a bit loose surprisingly on the sleeve holes where your hands go through. It feels pretty decent it looks pretty nice as well. There is for sure a lot of filling in it and it gives it a very poofy look if that's not what you like then don't get this. The outside material feels pretty okay. I think if you were to take this on a ski trip a camping area hiking it will last pretty decently against brush ups with maybe some rocks and tree branches etc. it will definitely keep you warm if you wear a mid layer such as a Columbia down jacket. I would say it would keep you pretty warm in a down to 0° temperature with wind chills using this. Very nice tan color.

Not as warm as expected

Not quite as warm as I expected since this coat came with a maximum warmth rating. I imagine combining it with a base layer underneath or a fleece shearling shirt would help but this coat alone with a shirt underneath is not sufficient for below freezing weather. Also, as others have pointed out the Omniheat gold lining comes out below the sleeves.
